Once in a while I get the opportunity to capture a portrait of a person in the street. It’s easy for me to capture them when they are moving but it’s another ball game when they are sitting and I’m trying to take their picture without them noticing me. I like this type of portraiture the best because its such a clear and natural moment. The above portrait and the two below were taken near the Prince Street Subway Station for the N and the R Train. This is a beautiful old building that has incredible lighting and people love to sit on the window ledges. It is one of my favorite places to capture portraits.

This was shot right across the street from the building and she was so relaxed sipping her Starbuck’s.

Beautiful!
Thank you David!
All fantastic shots Karen, it’s something I find very hard to do.
Thank you Mark! It is not easy for me either. I’m a private person so I try to respect others privacy and photograph them iin a respectful way.
Street portraits are my favorite of all photography.. I truly could do a whole wall in my house of pictures such as these.. Humanity at it’s finest..these are wonderful!!
Thank you Lynne!
Great portraits, Karen! I was told not to take a New Yorker’s photo, so I asked many if I could capture them — most were great with it! 🙂
God Bless You!
Thank you Deidre! I don’t know who told you not to take a New Yorker’s photo but its a fact of life here. With the large number of tourist snapping away you can’t avoid getting into a picture. I’ve only had one or two that ever gave me grief. One was an Elvis impersonator sitting waiting for the bus. He must have had a bad day.
