I love the Metropolitan Museum of Art and if you ever visit New York you have to put it on your must see list.  The architecture of the building alone is spectacular.  The museum opened in 1870 and was located in the Dodworth building at 681 Fifth Avenue. In 1880 the museum moved to is current location at Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street.  The facade and Great Hall were built in 1902 and designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Richard Morris Hunt.  The museum has expanded over the years with its current size at two million square feet.  For me, that is a lot of photo opportunities.

One of the many things I love about the Metropolitan Museum of Art is they are photographer friendly.  Wednesday through Friday you can request a permit to use a tripod which makes shooting in the museum even more fun.  As you will see from the following photographs the lighting in the period rooms mimics candlelight so you really want to use a tripod in those areas.

Another great place to visit is the Arms and Armour exhibit.  I loved the large center display of Knights in Shining Armour upen their trusted steeds.

This will be a continuing series for me as I go back and photograph the vast number of exhibits that are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
