City Trees

The trees along this city street,
Save for the traffic and the trains,
Would make a sound as thin and sweet
As trees in country lanes.

From “City Trees” by Edna St. Vincent Millay

I have to agree with the words of Edna St. Vincent Millay that the trees in the city are as sweet as those in the country.  The provide a natural arch to the beautiful cathedral doors above and stand in all its beauty in the sunlight a small but magnificent park between the New York Supreme and U.S. District Courts below.

I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to show this in color or black and white. So I am showing both because they each have a different mood.  I caught my breath when I saw this tree.

I think Albert Einstein says it best:

“Look deep, deep, deep into nature, and then you will understand everything.”

  1. All good – in a couple of shots I like the starkness of an individual tree up against the buildling. Would be interesting to see the same or similar pics, with the leaves out – if you have a chance during lunch!
