This past Tuesday I decided to grab the camera and umbrella and walk over to Times Square to see what the lights would look like reflected in the rain.  I was  pleasantly surprised to find a wealth of interesting compositions that the rain puddles and lights made.  I don’t recommend taking any camera out in the rain.  I shoot with a Pentax K5 DSLR because it is weather sealed and can really take a beating in harsh weather.

The shot below is in the exact location as the photo above except the lights in Times Square are constantly changing. It shows just how the surrounding light can change the mood and composition of a photograph.  My composition in the following photographs are leaving out as much as my surroundings as possible to make it more abstract.

This picture reminded me of a japanese koi pond.  It’s hard to believe its a street in one of the busiest areas of New York.

  1. I was on times square too last tuesday! With my camera! I also saw the reflection on the ground, was drawn to it…but it never came up to me to shoot ONLY the reflections!!
Very good, far away from the countless times square shots that we have all seen already
