This week we are a looking at another Saint, St. Mark, except this one is not a cathedral but a street in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan known as St. Mark’s Place. It is a colorful and lively neighborhood that consists of tattoo parlors, interesting cafes and shops.  It has been the home of Abbie Hoffman, Lenny Bruce and James Fennimore Cooper.  Famous musicians such as Tholenius Monk played at the Five Spot and Led Zepplin’s album cover for Physical Graffitti was photographed there.

I got a kick out of this tattoo parlor.  All I could think of when I saw the name on the awning was walking in and asking for a decaf cappacino with fat free milk and tatto for my wrist.  Just not a combination I would normally put together.

Trash Vaudville was known as Limbo in the late 60’s and early 70’s.  Limbo was one of the first
hippie clothing stores in the area at that time.  I like the juxtaposition of the two guys on the right to the mannequins on the left.

The store signs in this area are great.  I love the hole in the sock cartoon.

And then I walked by this Panda and said to myself “What in the Sam’s Hill is going on with that Panda?”  Then I looked up.  You really have to look at all the the things going on in this picture.
